Sara Duterte Returns to Philippines After Father's Arrest in The Hague

Vice President Sara Duterte returned to the Philippines after a three-week trip to The Hague, where she coordinated the legal defense for her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, who faces charges of crimes against humanity in relation to his controversial drug war. Rodrigo Duterte was arrested on March 11 and transferred to the International Criminal Court (ICC), where he remains in custody. During her stay, Sara Duterte stated that she would not seek financial assistance for her father's defense, expressing willingness to sell personal assets if necessary. Her return comes as her family's political party lags in polls ahead of upcoming mid-term elections, amid a growing feud with President Ferdinand Marcos. Additionally, Sara is set to face an impeachment trial in the Senate for alleged constitutional violations and misuse of funds. The ICC is scheduled to hold a confirmation of charges against her father later this year.
