Wicked Wins Best Film at NBR Awards

The National Board of Review (NBR) has awarded 'Wicked' the title of Best Film of 2024, also recognizing Jon M. Chu as Best Director and honoring stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande with a Spotlight Award. NBR President Annie Schulhof praised 'Wicked' for its exceptional craftsmanship and transporting experience. Other acting awards went to Daniel Craig for Best Actor in 'Queer' and Nicole Kidman for Best Actress in 'Babygirl', with Kieran Culkin and Elle Fanning winning in supporting roles. Despite the accolades, historically, NBR selections do not always align with the Oscars, having not seen a Best Film winner translate to an Oscar win since 'Slumdog Millionaire' in 2008. This year's awards landscape is noted for its unpredictability, with significant competition emerging from other award bodies like the Gotham Awards and New York Film Critics Circle. The NBR winners will be honored at a gala in January 2025.
