OIC Representatives, Azerbaijan Discuss Sustainable Islamic Finance, Climate Action

Azerbaijan's Ministry of Finance hosted a meeting with the Coordination Office of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to discuss a research project promoting sustainable Islamic financial instruments to combat climate change effects in OIC member states, reviewing experiences from countries including Azerbaijan. Concurrently, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi is expected to attend the 51st OIC Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Istanbul, which will focus on Israel's recent strikes against Iran, with Turkey condemning the attacks and calling for unity among Muslim countries. Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy, Mikayil Jabbarov, participated in the OPEC Fund Development Forum in Vienna, engaging in discussions on economic cooperation, sustainable development, and renewable energy with various international officials including representatives from Austria, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE, and the Islamic Development Bank Group. These meetings highlighted Azerbaijan's investment opportunities, ongoing economic reforms, and bilateral collaborations aimed at strengthening trade, infrastructure, and green energy sectors. A Country Partnership Framework was signed between Azerbaijan and the OPEC Fund for International Development, outlining cooperation from 2025 to 2030 to support projects in industry, renewable energy, and infrastructure. Overall, these engagements underscore Azerbaijan's active role in regional economic development, environmental sustainability, and multilateral diplomatic efforts within the OIC framework.
