Hyundai, Plus Unveil Autonomous Hydrogen Freight Concept at ACT Expo
At the ACT Expo 2025, Hyundai Motor and Plus unveiled a joint vision to accelerate the development of a hydrogen-powered freight network in the U.S. by pairing Hyundai's XCIENT Fuel Cell truck with Plus’s autonomous driving software. Their concept emphasizes scalable deployment along high-utilization routes, with each new route reinforcing infrastructure investment and operational efficiency. Hyundai’s broader North American strategy includes not only vehicle innovation but also integrated hydrogen infrastructure through its HTWO Energy platform, positioning itself as a logistics and technology leader amid tightening emissions regulations. The company showcased breakthroughs such as the NorCal Zero Project, where 30 XCIENT trucks have logged significant zero-emission miles, and introduced the XCIENT Fuel Cell XS, a next-generation Class 8 truck tailored for North America. Hyundai’s hydrogen initiatives extend globally, with thousands of fuel cell trucks and buses deployed across 14 countries and extensive partnerships supporting the scale-up. These efforts aim to address the heavy-duty sector’s decarbonization challenges by offering fast-refueling, long-range alternatives to diesel, while leveraging collaborations to build a robust hydrogen ecosystem.
