UK Man Indicted for Smuggling Arms to China
John Miller, a 63-year-old British businessman, has been indicted by US federal authorities for allegedly attempting to smuggle sensitive American military technology—including missiles, air defense radars, drones, and cryptographic devices—to China, and orchestrating harassment against a critic of Chinese President Xi Jinping. Miller and his co-accused Cui Guanghai, a Chinese national, are charged with interstate stalking, conspiracy, smuggling, and violations of the Arms Export Control Act, with a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. According to the US Justice Department, Miller acted under direction from Beijing, referring to Xi as 'the boss' in intercepted communications. The indictment alleges they disguised military hardware and made deposits totaling at least $10,000 to facilitate the exports. The pair are further accused of targeting a US resident for criticizing the Chinese government by installing a tracking device, slashing tires, and attempting to bribe the victim to stop their criticism. Both men were arrested in Serbia and face possible extradition to the US, while UK authorities have confirmed consular support for Miller.
