One Rescued, One Missing After Boat Capsizes Off Salisbury Beach

A 47-foot boat capsized off Salisbury Beach near the mouth of the Merrimack River on Saturday afternoon, resulting in one man being rescued and another man in his 50s remaining missing. The boat, which had departed from Salisbury Marina, began taking on water and eventually sank. The rescued man, who is the vessel’s owner, was airlifted to a Boston hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Rescue efforts involved multiple agencies including the U.S. Coast Guard, Massachusetts State Police Air Wing, local harbormasters, and police and fire departments from Salisbury and Newburyport. Recovery operations were suspended Saturday night due to adverse weather conditions caused by Hurricane Erin, which has been generating dangerous rip currents and large waves along the Massachusetts coast. Authorities continue to search for the missing man, planning to resume efforts as weather permits.
