Rugby Legend Alun Wyn Jones Appointed Honorary Colonel Royal Welsh

Alun Wyn Jones, the most capped rugby player in history with 170 international appearances, has been appointed Honorary Colonel of the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Welsh, by King Charles III. Jones, a former captain of Wales and the British and Irish Lions, expressed that he feels humbled and apprehensive about the responsibility of this new military role, which involves inspiring current and future soldiers in Wales. He takes over from Brigadier Russ Wardle OBE DL, who served as Honorary Colonel for over a decade. Major General Chris Barry CBE praised Jones as a true Welsh warrior and emphasized the potential for a long-lasting relationship between Jones and the regiment. In this ceremonial position, Jones will serve as an ambassador and figurehead, using his leadership experience from rugby to motivate members of The Royal Welsh. The appointment marks a significant new chapter in Jones's leadership journey, shifting from sports to a prestigious military role.
