Mets Donate Celebratory Sign to Hall of Fame
The New York Mets have donated one of their 'OMG' celebration signs to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, following their successful run to the National League Championship Series. This specific sign, used by the pitching staff, will be showcased in the 'Your Team Today' exhibit to commemorate the excitement of the Mets' 2024 season. The 'OMG' phenomenon is linked to a song by infielder José Iglesias, performed as Candelita, which became an anthem during games. Designed by local artist Jerome McCroy, the signs gained popularity as the Mets advanced through the playoffs, ultimately falling short of the World Series. While one sign heads to Cooperstown, another will be displayed at Citi Field to celebrate hitters' achievements. The Mets are also interested in retaining Iglesias, who has become a free agent after the season.
