Judi Dench requires guide amid advanced vision loss

Dame Judi Dench, the 90-year-old Oscar-winning actress, has publicly discussed her struggles with vision loss due to age-related macular degeneration, a condition she was diagnosed with in 2012. As her eyesight has deteriorated, Dench now requires assistance when leaving her home, and she often feels anxious about attending social events. She has shared that she can no longer read scripts or learn lines as she used to, relying on friends to help her memorize through repetition. Dench expressed relief at no longer having to pretend to see, acknowledging the challenges her condition presents in her daily life and career. Despite these difficulties, she remains determined to act as much as possible. In her own words, she stated, "I have to now because I can’t see and I will walk into something or fall over."
