OpenAI launches Deep Research tool for ChatGPT users

OpenAI has launched a new feature called 'Deep Research' for ChatGPT, designed to enable users to conduct complex analytical tasks and generate comprehensive reports akin to those produced by research analysts. This tool allows users to input prompts along with files such as images and PDFs, and it synthesizes data from hundreds of online sources, achieving results in 5 to 30 minutes while providing a sidebar summary of the research process. While the feature demonstrates significant capabilities, OpenAI cautions that it may still produce errors or unreliable information. CEO Sam Altman highlighted the tool's potential during a recent visit to Japan, where he discussed broader AI infrastructure initiatives with local business leaders. The Deep Research tool is currently available to subscribers of the $200 per month ChatGPT Pro plan, with plans for wider access in the future. This release comes in a competitive landscape, with similar features emerging from other AI firms, such as Google's Gemini.
