British Transport Police officer charged with assaulting 15-year-old girl

PC Adrian Young, a 47-year-old officer from the British Transport Police's London Overground Tasking Team, is facing charges of assault by beating after allegedly choking a 15-year-old girl at Camden Road station on September 22, 2024. The incident reportedly occurred when the girl attempted to pass through ticket barriers without payment, leading to a confrontation with the off-duty officer who claims his actions were proportionate. An investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) was initiated following a complaint from a witness in October, and a file of evidence was submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service in March 2025, which led to the charges. Young has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to appear in Westminster Magistrates' Court on April 9. CCTV footage of the incident is expected to be presented during the trial. Young has been suspended from duty since the incident.
