Man Sentenced for Raping 16-Year-Old

Juan Sanchezflores, a 44-year-old man from Santa Maria, has been sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison for raping and impregnating a 16-year-old girl in May 2019. The conviction for rape by force or violence includes an enhancement for great bodily injury, specifically due to the victim's pregnancy resulting from the assault. District Attorney Dan Dow emphasized that such violent crimes will be vigorously prosecuted and expressed support for the survivor's courage in seeking justice. Sanchezflores is also required to register as a sex offender for life. The case involved multiple law enforcement agencies and advocates to ensure the victim was supported throughout the process. Dow hopes this case encourages other survivors to come forward and report similar crimes in San Luis Obispo County.
