UK Rail Engineering Works and Service Disruptions
Major overnight engineering works on Southeastern from Oct 6–10 will close lines and replace trains with accessible buses on routes including Tonbridge–Wadhurst–Hastings, Bromley North–Grove Park (with free use of London Buses 126/261), Sittingbourne–Herne Bay–Ramsgate and Tunbridge Wells–Hastings, and will cause timetable diversions such as the London Victoria–Dover Priory and St Pancras–Faversham services. Southern is carrying out overnight engineering Oct 6–9 that will close Norwood Junction–Selhurst–West Croydon–Sutton–Epsom Downs and Purley–Caterham–Tattenham Corner lines after about 11pm/10:45pm each night, with buses replacing trains until Friday morning. A major incident between Wimbledon and Woking forced power to be turned off to allow emergency services onto the track, causing delays of up to 90 minutes; the line has since reopened and South Western Railway said affected passengers may source taxis and reclaim costs. Separately, ÖBB will withdraw Nightjet sleeper services Vienna–Paris and Berlin–Paris, with final journeys on Dec. 14 after the French government cancelled subsidies from 2026, while Vienna–Brussels services will continue. The publisher noted subscribers see about 80% fewer display ads, with the remaining adverts mainly promoting local businesses.
