Two Arrested Following Gunfire Near Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School

On Wednesday, a fight near Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School escalated into gunfire, resulting in a lockdown that lasted nearly four hours. The incident occurred at Chase Avenue Park around 10 a.m., prompting authorities to respond after community members reported hearing shots. Two individuals were arrested: 19-year-old Nicholas Blanco, facing multiple charges including assault and reckless endangerment, and a juvenile charged with firearm-related offenses. Principal Shelton Mooney confirmed that some students were involved in the altercation, but no injuries were reported during the incident. The school communicated with parents about the lockdown and provided support services for students and staff affected by the event. Montgomery County police have stated they are not seeking additional suspects at this time.
