Rukia Bulle Wins 2024 BBC Komla Dumor Award

Rukia Bulle, a human interest journalist from Nation Media Group, has been awarded the prestigious 2024 BBC Komla Dumor Award, becoming the ninth recipient and the third Kenyan to win since its inception. The award, which honors the legacy of Ghanaian journalist Komla Dumor, coincides with the 10th anniversary of his death. Judges praised Bulle for her resilience, ability to tackle challenging stories, and her focus on under-represented voices. Bulle expressed her hope that this recognition inspires young girls from minority communities to pursue their dreams. As part of her award, she will spend three months in London working with BBC teams and will also report on a significant story in Africa. Previous Kenyan winners include Waihiga Mwaura and Victoria Rubadiri.
