UC Irvine Rape Prompts Campus Safety Alerts

UC Irvine police are searching for a suspect after a reported rape at Camino del Sol student housing around 11 p.m. on May 16. The suspect is described as a white male, 30 to 40 years old, medium build, dark hair, wearing a dark t-shirt and navy blue hat, and possibly driving a dark-colored Acura. The victim reported the crime the following evening, but police have not located the suspect or vehicle after canvassing the area. In response, UC Irvine increased patrols, issued safety guidelines, and encouraged students to use campus escort programs and walk in groups. The case has led to campus-wide safety alerts and heightened community concern. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the UCI Police Department.
