Boku Secures Payment Institution License in Brazil for Pix Automático

Boku has been granted a Payment Institution licence by the Central Bank of Brazil, allowing it to operate as a Payment Initiator and E-money Issuer within Brazil’s Open Finance ecosystem. This licence enables Boku to offer Pix Automático, a new feature launched in June 2025 that supports recurring automated payments for subscriptions and regular bills, to merchants by early 2026. Pix, introduced in 2020, is Brazil’s most popular digital payment method, used by over 76% of adults and accounting for 45% of total payments and 30% of e-commerce transactions, with a strong preference among younger, digital-first consumers. The introduction of Pix Automático addresses growing consumer demand for convenience and is expected to expand financial inclusion by serving those without credit cards and smaller businesses. Boku’s expansion into Brazil aligns with the country’s digitalisation drive and aims to reduce checkout friction, improve conversion, and broaden access to digital payments.
