Indonesian President Prabowo Urges Military to Defend Nation's Natural Resources from Foreign Exploitation

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto urged the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) to actively protect the nation's extensive natural resources from foreign entities who have historically exploited and continue to steal and smuggle these assets. Speaking at the TNI's 80th anniversary ceremony, attended by about 133,000 military personnel, Prabowo emphasized the military's role in supporting law enforcement and government bodies to safeguard these resources, which are crucial for Indonesia's economic growth and poverty eradication. Since taking office in 2024, Prabowo has expanded the military's involvement in civilian sectors, increased defense spending, and appointed senior officers to manage state-owned enterprises, including vast palm oil plantations seized by the state. He also called for modernization and adoption of new technologies such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity within the military to address future challenges. Prabowo highlighted that sustainable management of Indonesia's natural wealth is fundamental to transforming the country into a prosperous and modern nation. This comprehensive approach reflects his administration's focus on national sovereignty, economic development, and military modernization.
