Man Charged with Murder in 2020 Kayaking Death

A 55-year-old man has been charged with murder, fraud, and attempted fraud following the 2020 drowning death of a 54-year-old woman during a kayaking trip on Lake Samsonvale near Brisbane. The two, who were known to each other, were kayaking when the woman fell into the water and could not be revived despite CPR efforts. Although initially ruled an accidental drowning, extended police and coronial investigations led authorities to suspect foul play. The man, who had been living in Thailand, was arrested upon returning to Brisbane, with police alleging his involvement in the woman's death. The man has been refused bail and is scheduled to appear in court.
