Winnie Byanyima Questions Trial Fairness for Besigye

Winnie Byanyima, the wife of Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye, has expressed concerns that her husband will not receive a fair trial after he was allegedly abducted in Kenya and brought back to Uganda to face military court charges, including illegal possession of firearms. Both Amnesty International and a Kenyan foreign ministry official have characterized the incident as an abduction. Byanyima argues the charges against Besigye are politically motivated and called for President Yoweri Museveni to reconsider his approach to opposition. Ugandan government officials deny carrying out abductions, asserting that arrests abroad are made in collaboration with host nations. She warned that the military court does not offer justice, urging for a transition to a civilian court. The military spokesperson countered Byanyima's claims, affirming confidence in the judicial process in Uganda.
