Ashmita Chaliha reached the semi-finals of the Thailand Masters, beating world number 44 Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo in the women's singles quarterfinal match. She won the match 21-14, 19-21, 21-13 and will face Supanida Katethong in the semi-final. Chaliha is the only Indian left in the tournament after Mithun Manjunath lost his men's singles quarterfinals, and the women's doubles pairs of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand also exited from the competition. This is India's first semi-final appearance in the women's singles category at a BWF World tour event after four months. Chaliha's victory was not without difficulty, as she made an outraging comeback in the first game and won 11 points on the trot to clinch the game from a losing position. She also had to fend off a fight back from her opponent in the second game before winning the match in the third game.
