Ebro-EV Motors and Chery Begin Production in Barcelona

On November 23, Ebro-EV Motors and Chery Automobile launched vehicle production at their joint venture, the Ebro Factory, in Barcelona, marking a significant milestone in Sino-Spanish collaboration. The inaugural model produced is the S700 SUV, with the S800 SUV expected to follow shortly, both available in plug-in hybrid and internal combustion engine versions. This initiative, which repurposes a former Nissan plant, aims to produce 150,000 vehicles annually by 2029 and create approximately 1,250 jobs. Chery's Chairman emphasized their commitment to transforming the Ebro brand into Spain's primary automobile brand while promoting green technologies. The partnership was celebrated during a ceremony attended by Spanish Minister of Industry and Tourism, who suggested this collaboration could serve as a model for future projects. Despite being positioned as the first Chinese automaker to manufacture in Europe, this claim has been contested due to previous productions by other Chinese companies in the region.
