Ukraine Imposes Nationwide Electricity Restrictions After Russian Energy Facility Attacks

Ukraine has introduced an 8-hour daily restriction on electricity consumption across all regions following a large-scale Russian missile and drone attack that damaged critical energy infrastructure. The power outages, implemented by Ukrenergo, occur from 08:00 to 19:00 and include scheduled blackouts in 1–2 shifts depending on system load, as well as capacity limitations for industrial enterprises. This measure aims to stabilize the power system ahead of the heating season, as Russian attacks continue to target energy facilities, causing injuries and damage to residential buildings. The situation remains dynamic, with outage durations and scales varying based on the extent of damage, and residents can find updated outage schedules on regional energy company websites and social media channels. Ukrainian officials describe these attacks as attempts to provoke a humanitarian catastrophe during winter. The power cuts have also affected transportation services, causing delays and requiring the use of reserve locomotives in some regions.
