S K Nanda, a prominent IAS officer from the 1978 Gujarat Cadre, passed away at the age of 68 due to a cardiac arrest while visiting his children in the USA. Nanda had been undergoing treatment for pneumonia at a hospital in Ithaca, New York, when he suffered the fatal incident. He served in key roles during his career, including as additional chief secretary for Home during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tenure as Gujarat chief minister from 2012 to 2014, and was involved in various sectors such as health, tourism, and urban development. Nanda was recognized for his contributions to disaster management and was instrumental in using ham radio during emergencies like the 1997 cyclone and the 2001 Kutch earthquake. After retiring in 2016, he continued to engage in social causes, including tribal development and cultural propagation. His contributions have left a lasting impact on both the bureaucratic and cultural landscapes of Gujarat.
