Gaylord Pacific Resort Opens in Chula Vista

The Gaylord Pacific Resort & Convention Center has opened in Chula Vista, California, following nearly two decades of planning and a $1.3 billion investment. With 1,600 rooms, a 4.25-acre water park, 12 dining options, and over 477,000 square feet of event space, it is now the largest hotel-based convention center in California and the sixth Gaylord Hotels property in the U.S. The development is expected to generate around $475 million annually for the local economy and has created thousands of construction and permanent jobs. The resort is a central element of a larger Bayfront redevelopment effort that includes new parks, retail, housing, and habitat conservation. The opening is credited to collaboration among Marriott International, RIDA Development, the Port of San Diego, and local stakeholders. Local officials, including Chula Vista’s mayor, say the project will transform the city’s waterfront into a premier destination for business and leisure.
