Bellingham Police Arrest 23 During Retail Patrols
The Bellingham Police Department, in partnership with Loss Prevention Officers at Fred Meyer, conducted two targeted patrols on December 5 and 10 to combat a rise in retail theft at the store on West Bakerview Road. Over the course of these patrols, 23 individuals were arrested for various offenses, including 12 counts of third-degree theft and two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, with 63 grams of methamphetamine seized from one suspect. Officers also discovered a realistic-looking airsoft pistol during their searches. While many arrested faced shoplifting charges, several had outstanding warrants or were charged with more serious crimes. Local community members expressed support for the police efforts, emphasizing the need for continual action against theft. The police highlighted the successful collaboration with community partners to enhance safety in Bellingham.
