Invest 95L Likely To Form, NHC Warns
The National Hurricane Center is monitoring Invest 95L/AL95 several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, rating it about 50% likely to form in 48 hours and 70% in seven days and saying a tropical depression is likely by midweek as it moves quickly west toward the Leeward Islands. If the system organizes into a tropical storm it would be named Jerry; potential hazards include heavy rainfall, flooding, gusty winds, dangerous surf, rip currents and localized storm surge, so residents and travelers in the Leeward Islands should monitor official updates and prepare. A separate weak trough/area of low pressure over the north‑central Gulf is producing disorganized showers across Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama and is expected to move inland toward Texas with essentially no chance of tropical development due to strong upper‑level winds. Another tropical wave nearer the African coast shows slower potential for development and could organize east of the Lesser Antilles by late next week, but long‑range model guidance and exact impacts remain uncertain. In the eastern Pacific, Hurricane Priscilla is strengthening south‑southeast of Baja California and may approach major hurricane strength with heavy rain and gusty winds for parts of southwestern Mexico, while Tropical Storm Octave is weakening as it moves eastward.
