The Supreme Court of India has deferred to August 28 the hearing of pleas seeking reconsideration of its July 27, 2022, verdict that upheld the constitutional validity of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The three-judge bench deferred the hearing after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta requested more time to prepare. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing the petitioners, argued that the judgment was erroneous and required full review. The 2022 ruling had confirmed the Enforcement Directorate's powers regarding arrest, search, attachment, and seizure in money laundering cases. The bench will also examine whether these petitions are genuine reviews or disguised appeals.
