Chiyaan Vikram recently commented on the shelved Hindi remake of his 2005 film Anniyan, which was set to feature Ranveer Singh in the lead role. Vikram noted that filmmaker Shankar should address the remake's status, humorously suggesting he should have been involved in a sequel instead. He expressed appreciation for Singh, stating he would have liked to see how the Bollywood star would interpret the iconic role. The remake plans were initially announced in April 2021 but fell through due to a legal dispute involving the original producer, Aascar Ravichandran, who claimed the remake was unauthorized. In July 2024, Shankar confirmed that the project had been put on hold, with plans shifting towards new ventures. Vikram, meanwhile, is currently promoting his film Thangalaan, which he describes as a unique and challenging project.
