Hunter Biden Joins California Nonprofit Defending Undocumented Tenants
Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, has taken on a new role as director of development at BASTA, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit focused on homeless prevention and tenants' rights, particularly representing undocumented immigrants and low-income tenants facing eviction. He emphasized the opportunity to serve vulnerable populations, including El Salvadoran and Ukrainian immigrants, by helping keep families in their homes and off the streets, addressing the broader issue of homelessness. BASTA, which does not accept federal funding, allows the organization to represent undocumented individuals without restrictions. The group is connected to Bryan Sullivan, Biden's attorney and a BASTA board member, highlighting Biden's networking skills as a reason for his qualification. His employment at BASTA follows his presidential pardon in December 2024 after a gun possession conviction and comes amid ongoing legal and financial challenges. Biden’s commitment to the cause reflects a significant career shift from his previous business dealings and legal struggles to tenant advocacy and community service.
