UK Imposes 100 Sanctions on Russian Shadow Fleet, Military Suppliers

The UK government, led by new Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, has imposed 100 new sanctions targeting Russia's military and energy sectors as part of an intensified effort to pressure Vladimir Putin amid escalating missile and drone attacks on Ukraine. These sanctions focus on Russia's shadow fleet of 70 oil tankers that operate outside official supply chains, as well as 30 companies and individuals supplying electronics, chemicals, and explosives essential for Russian weapons manufacturing, including firms based in China and Turkey. Cooper announced the sanctions during her first overseas visit to Kyiv, emphasizing the UK's commitment to Ukraine's security and NATO's sovereignty following recent Russian air strikes that violated NATO airspace in Poland. The UK is coordinating these measures with international partners to cut off critical financial flows and supplies fueling Russia's ongoing illegal war. Additionally, the UK pledged over £140 million in winter aid to support Ukraine during this period of intensified conflict. These actions represent a continuation and escalation of Britain's leadership in economic pressure campaigns against Russia alongside security support and coalition efforts for a just peace in Ukraine.
