A 12-year-old boy from Our Lady of Victory Catholic School in Northville is in critical condition after being struck by a falling tree at Howell Nature Center during an overnight school trip. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, and the boy was airlifted to the University of Michigan hospital in Ann Arbor for treatment. Witnesses report that the students were gathered around trying to make a fire when the tree fell, and all but the injured boy managed to get out of the way. The exact circumstances surrounding how the tree fell remain unclear, with no high winds or work being done on the tree reported. The boy was initially transported by ground to Parker Middle School before being flown to the hospital. This is a developing story, and updates will follow as more information becomes available.
