Fremont Man Charged in Murder of Registered Sex Offender

Varun Suresh, 29, has been charged with murder and related counts after Fremont police say he fatally stabbed 71-year-old David Brimmer on Sept. 18 in a targeted, vigilante-style attack. Authorities allege Suresh used California’s Megan’s Law online registry to locate Brimmer, posed as a CPA going door-to-door to lure him outside, then attacked and chased him into a neighbor’s home, stabbing him multiple times; officers recovered a knife and arrested Suresh at the scene. Police say Suresh admitted seeking out registered sex offenders and told investigators he selected Brimmer because of his age and prior convictions, reportedly saying the killing was “honestly really fun” and that pedophiles “deserve to die.” Brimmer had been convicted in the 1990s of lewd and lascivious acts with minors while serving as a pastor and was listed on the sex-offender registry, which investigators say Suresh used to identify him. Alameda County prosecutors filed charges including murder, armed individual causing great bodily injury and residential burglary, and police say Suresh had a prior 2021 arrest for pursuing someone he believed to be a pedophile.
