Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has launched the world's first Smartphone Express Bag Drop Service, allowing passengers to use their smartphones for a seamless departure process. This innovative service enables travelers to complete online check-in and baggage drop in under a minute, significantly reducing the previous average processing time of three minutes. Initially available for Cathay Pacific and HK Express flights, it is expected to expand to 80% of airlines within two years. Passengers can register through their airline's app, scan travel documents, and drop their bags using facial recognition technology. The service is available to those with electronic travel documents and aims to enhance airport efficiency and reduce manpower needs. HKIA's initiative marks a significant advancement in self-service technology for air travel.
