Filipino-Austrian singer Johannes “JJ” Pietsch made history by winning the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest held in Basel, Switzerland, with his operatic ballad "Wasted Love." Scoring a total of 436 points from a combination of jury and public votes, JJ secured Austria's third Eurovision victory, the first since 2014. The contest featured 26 participating countries, with Israel and Estonia finishing second and third, respectively. JJ expressed gratitude and a message of self-belief and pride in his heritage during interviews and social media posts. The event was hosted by notable Swiss personalities and drew an audience of over 160 million worldwide. JJ, who also competed in The Voice UK in 2020, co-wrote "Wasted Love" with Teodora Špirić and Thomas Turner.
