Dispute Over Sarawak Gas Distribution Resolved

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that a dispute over gas distribution rights in Sarawak between Petroliam Nasional Bhd. (Petronas) and Petroleum Sarawak Bhd. (Petros) has been resolved, following negotiations with Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg. Anwar clarified that while Petros will serve as the sole gas aggregator for Sarawak, Petronas retains nationwide authority under the Petroleum Development Act 1974, which remains the governing framework. The Sarawak Gas Distribution Ordinance 2016 does not override federal laws, ensuring that Petronas' operations are unaffected. Both leaders emphasized cooperation, with Petronas and Petros expected to collaborate on various energy initiatives while respecting each other's domains.
