Indonesian Police Showcase Humanoid Robots in National Parade
During the 79th anniversary celebration of the Indonesian National Police at the National Monument in Jakarta on July 1, 2025, Polri showcased an array of advanced robots including humanoid robots, robotic dogs (I-K9), bomb disposal units, and tank-like machines as part of its digital transformation and modernization efforts. These robots are designed to perform various functions such as public interaction, education, facial recognition, monitoring traffic violations, riot response, bomb disposal, search-and-rescue, and narcotics detection while wearing police attire like berets and vests. Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo clarified that these robots are currently in a demonstration phase and will not replace human officers but act as strategic partners, with further phases planned for personnel training and limited trials in police service centers. Experts have welcomed the technological advancements but raised concerns about costs, resource efficiency, and the potential use of robots in handling protests, emphasizing the importance of maintaining humanity in law enforcement. The event was attended by high-level officials including President Prabowo Subianto and featured extensive security to manage the large crowd expected at the ceremony. Overall, the deployment of these robots reflects Polri’s commitment to adopting cutting-edge technology to enhance operational safety and police effectiveness.
