The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in the UK has decided to discontinue criminal proceedings against Harvey Weinstein for indecent assault, stating there is 'no longer a realistic prospect of conviction' related to an alleged incident from 1996. The CPS previously authorized charges in 2022 but has now concluded that pursuing the case is not feasible. Weinstein, who has been a central figure in the #MeToo movement, remains in custody in New York, where he awaits a retrial on separate rape and sexual assault charges. His 2020 conviction in Manhattan was overturned earlier this year due to improper testimony being allowed during the trial. After the New York retrial, Weinstein is also set to serve a 16-year sentence for a separate conviction in California. He continues to deny all allegations of sexual misconduct.
