Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu has launched the Digi Yatra biometric travel initiative at nine airports across India, including Ranchi, Indore, and Bhubaneswar, allowing seamless, contactless processing for air travelers through facial recognition technology. This system eliminates the need for physical tickets and identity verification at checkpoints, significantly reducing wait times. Over 3 crore passengers have utilized the Digi Yatra app, which has been downloaded by more than 55 lakh users. Passengers must register on the app with their identity details to create a Digi Yatra ID, which will be linked to their boarding pass for streamlined processing. The initiative is part of a broader plan to enhance India's airport infrastructure, with an aim to increase the number of airports from 157 to 400 over the next 25 years. The Digi Yatra system underscores the government's commitment to modernizing air travel in India.
