Malik Beasley Faces Probe, Eviction, and Lawsuits

Malik Beasley, a free agent guard and former Detroit Piston, is under federal investigation for allegedly gambling on NBA games and player prop bets, with at least one sportsbook reporting unusual betting activity on his stats. Beasley is also facing severe financial issues, including eviction from his downtown Detroit apartment for unpaid rent, two related lawsuits, and a default judgment against him. Additional civil suits include claims from his former marketing agency and multiple creditors. The Pistons had paused contract negotiations for a three-year, $42 million deal with Beasley following news of the probe, and now appear to have moved on. Despite averaging 16.3 points per game and setting a team record for threes last season, Beasley’s NBA future is uncertain. His attorney notes that no charges have been filed and Beasley maintains the presumption of innocence.
