Tom Goldstein, a notable Supreme Court lawyer and co-founder of SCOTUSblog, has been indicted in Maryland on charges of tax evasion, loan fraud, and misuse of law firm funds to cover gambling debts. Goldstein allegedly participated in high-stakes poker games, incurring significant debts and failing to report poker winnings on tax filings, while using his law firm's resources to pay personal liabilities. The indictment accuses him of establishing sham employment arrangements for women he was involved with personally, using firm funds to pay their salaries and health insurance. Goldstein, who argued over 40 cases before the Supreme Court, retired in 2023, citing the Court’s conservative shift. His law firm, Goldstein & Russell, has since rebranded as Russell & Woofter.
