Micron Technology Plans $2.17 Billion Expansion in Virginia

Micron Technology has announced a significant investment of up to $2.17 billion to expand its semiconductor manufacturing facility in Manassas, Virginia, which will create 340 new jobs. The project aims to modernize the existing facility to produce advanced Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) chips, addressing growing demand in sectors such as automotive, aerospace, defense, and industrial markets. Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin emphasized that this expansion reinforces the state's position in semiconductor manufacturing and strengthens America's supply chain security. The expansion is supported by federal funding from the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act, which aims to enhance domestic semiconductor production capabilities. Micron, having operated in Manassas for over two decades, is uniquely positioned to foster advanced innovation and technology leadership in the U.S. This investment is seen as a crucial step towards bolstering the U.S. economy and ensuring technological competitiveness.
