Gasset, aged 70, previously managed Montpellier and has a history with the club dating back to 1985, and he comes out of retirement after a brief stint at Marseille. Montpellier currently sits at the bottom of Ligue 1, having won only one of their first eight matches, prompting the swift managerial change. The club's president, Laurent Nicollin, expressed his shame over the recent performance and the need for a new direction. Gasset's experience includes a recent role as the head coach of the Ivory Coast national team, where he resigned during the Africa Cup of Nations group stages.
