His family grew concerned after receiving uncharacteristic text messages and discovering his home emptied and renovated, with no sign of Hou or his belongings. Investigators found extensive fraudulent activity, with over $1 million drained from Hou’s accounts, likely by someone impersonating him via his phone to communicate with family members. Hou’s son, Wen, who has significant cryptocurrency wealth, believes the crime may be related to their financial profile, as no ransom demands have been made despite the large sums stolen. The family is offering a $250,000 reward for information leading to Hou’s safe return and the arrest of those responsible.
