Azerbaijani Ambassador Summoned at Russian MFA over Journalist Detentions

Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Russia, Rahman Mustafayev, was summoned to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in response to what Moscow described as Baku's unfriendly actions, specifically the detention of Russian journalists. The summons came after Azerbaijani security forces conducted a police operation at the Baku office of Sputnik Azerbaijan, a local branch of the Russian state news agency Russia Today, detaining several individuals including two employees affiliated with the Russian Federal Security Service. Mustafayev spent about an hour at the Russian MFA and left without making any comments. The Russian Foreign Ministry's action reflects escalating tensions between Russia and Azerbaijan concerning media operations and diplomatic access. Meanwhile, unrelated diplomatic developments include Slovakia appointing Elchin Gasimov, originally from Azerbaijan's Kalbajar district, as its new ambassador to Azerbaijan.
