Sri Lanka Names T20I Squad for Zimbabwe Series Without Wanindu Hasaranga

Sri Lanka has announced a 17-man squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe starting September 3, with key all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga absent due to a hamstring injury sustained in July. Hasaranga's injury also casts doubt on his participation in the Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE, which commences shortly after the Zimbabwe series. In his absence, spin duties will be handled by Maheesh Theekshana and Dunith Wellalage, while fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana has been included in the T20I squad after missing the preceding two ODIs. Charith Asalanka will captain the team, which includes experienced players like Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, Kamindu Mendis, and Dasun Shanaka. The series marks Sri Lanka's first white-ball tour of Zimbabwe since 2008 and serves as important preparation ahead of the Asia Cup. The two ODI matches will be played on August 29 and 31, followed by the T20Is on September 3, 6, and 7, all in Harare.
