Zubeen Garg Died in Singapore, Cremated in Assam

Zubeen Garg, 52, a celebrated Assamese singer, died in Singapore on September 19 after a reported swimming/scuba incident; Singapore authorities' post-mortem listed “drowning” as the cause. His body was flown directly to Guwahati and displayed in a glass casket at the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex, where thousands, including family members, queued to pay respects. A second post-mortem was conducted at Gauhati Medical College & Hospital with doctors from AIIMS‑Guwahati after public demand, despite the earlier autopsy in Singapore. He was cremated with full state honours at Kamarkuchi village on September 23, with Vedic rites, a police gun salute and attendance by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union ministers. The state declared days of mourning and announced plans to build a Samadhi Khetra at the last‑rites site, while tributes poured in from across India.
