Car Seat Headrest is set to release their first studio album in five years, titled 'The Scholars,' on May 2nd. The album, a rock opera set in the fictional Parnassus University, follows the character Beolco, a student who believes he is spiritually connected to a famed playwright known as the Scop. The lead single, 'CCF (I’m Gonna Stay With You),' showcases themes of life, death, and rebirth, and features an animated video with character illustrations by cartoonist Cate Wurtz. This single follows another track, 'Gethsemane,' which received positive acclaim for its reflective and expansive sound. The band is also planning promotional appearances at various festivals and tour dates across major U.S. cities. The narrative woven through the album is described as illuminating the struggles and experiences of its characters, contributing to a rich storytelling experience.
