The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed five cricket legends as mentors for the upcoming Champions One-Day Cup, aimed at improving the domestic cricket framework ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy. The mentors are Waqar Younis, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shoaib Malik, Saqlain Mushtaq, and Sarfaraz Ahmed, who collectively bring over 32,000 runs and 1,500 wickets in international cricket. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi emphasized that this initiative will help bridge the gap between domestic and international cricket and support the development of emerging players. The Champions One-Day Cup, which will run from September 12 to 29, marks the return of One-Day cricket in Pakistan after more than two years. The PCB has indicated that the mentors will play a critical role in strategic planning and team-building processes. This move follows Pakistan's recent loss to Bangladesh, highlighting the urgency for robust preparations for the upcoming international events.
