Rodrick Lodge, a 69-year-old widower from Leiston, Suffolk, has become a victim of an elaborate online scam, losing approximately KSh 14.3 million (£85,000) to a fictitious woman named 'Anita'. Introduced to 'Anita' by a friend he met in Kenya, Lodge developed an online relationship and ultimately agreed to relocate to Nairobi to marry her. The scam began when 'Anita' requested financial support for dowry and home renovations, convincing Lodge to send money under the guise of building a life together. It was only upon arriving in Kenya that Lodge discovered 'Anita' did not exist, and the person behind the deception was his friend. Lodge expressed feelings of embarrassment and regret, stating he feels like a fool for believing in the scam. Now, he faces homelessness and a bleak future as he grapples with the aftermath of the deception.
